The Liberation of Lemnos Part Three: Jungles of Heresy

The Jungles of Lemnos
The librarian of the Imperial Fists has a vision of an object of great power in the jungles to the south. He informs the commander that this relic must not be allowed to fall into the hands of the forces of Abbadon. However, from across the void, other minds have become aware of the danger hidden in the ruins and make their own plans.

The Imperial Fists moved cautiously through the steamy vegetation, noticing strange and possibly Xenos ruins jutting up from the rotting soil. Suddenly a clout of splinter and shiruken fire tore into the dismounted troops. From the sky an elder fighter strafed the chapter relic Sicaran, rendering it useless. Under the cover of jetbikes and a wave serpent, the elder pathfinders moved forward and secured the relic, but as they began to withdraw, they came across a herd of wild grox.

As the battle raged on and the Imperial Fists were cut down mercilessly, the elder found more resistance from the grox. At last they made their way past the brutish animals and also killed the grox. The elder corsairs blended back into the jungle, their prize in hand leaving the terrain strewn with the bodies of the fallen Imperials. The liberation of Lemnos had suffered it’s first major setback from a totally unexpected quarter. With both the razorback and Sicaran laid low and over sixty five battle brothers fallen, the Imperial Fists would be hard-pressed to continue the fight. But continue they would. First, however, there was the matter of retrieving the fallen and their sacred gear. The Eldar pirates had vanished as mysteriously as they had arrived, but other eyes had made note of the battle and it’s fallen treasures. Recovery would not be unopposed.

The Liberation of Lemnos Part Two: The Streets of Lemnos

The Iron Hands begin to liberate Lemnos by attacking a force of Renegade PDF in the closest city to the landing point they had established with the Imperial Fists.

Chaos Turn 2
Chaos kills a couple of scouts but little else.
Imperial Turn 2
Demagog’s command squad is wiped out. The Contemptor opens up on the squad of Chaos Space Marines who break like small children. The first heretic tank is destroyed.

Chaos Turn 3
The Hydras open fire on the Talon causing minor damage to the Storm Talon. The heretic tanks open fire on the rhino and tac marines, wiping them out (finally). The heretic platoon to the right continues to move forward on the scouts at objective two, pushing them back but unable to get close enough to take the objective for themselves.
Imperial Turn 3
Imperials close in with the vindicator taking out the majority of the chaos space marines.

Chaos Turn 4
The remaining CSM charges the vindicator and fails to penetrate with his krak grenade. One of the remaining heretics opens fire with his melta gun on the side armor of the vindicator and yet impotently fails to penetrate.
Imperial Turn 4
The dread charges the tanks, destroying one. The contemptor wipes out the last of the heretic guard.

Chaos Turn 5
The Demagog fires his plasma pistol at the dread about to charge him. Meanwhile the hydras continue to spew at the Talon, causing another hit (the previous damage was repaired by the Iron Hand’s Feel No Pain rule).
Imperial Turn 5
The Dread charges, tying up the heretic squad but causing no casualties. The scouts retake their objective and brace for Chaos to charge. Mysteriously the forces of Chaos fall back, abandoning the city to the Imperials. The liberation of Lemnos has begun in earnest.

The Iron Hands commander looked out on the wreckage of the city. The burning tanks thre up plumes of smoke. Resistance had been light an poorly organized. He wondered how ling it would continue.

Second Model for the Year; Imperial Fists Sicaran

This is the third Sicaran I have assembled and the best molded one. I would like to put together one more for my Black Legion. This is for David's birthday (he already knows we got this for him since his birthday was last month and shipping went long). I painted it to match the Rhino/Razorback and Drop Pod I had already done up for him.

Meanwhile I have a ton of Ultramarines I have put together who are waiting for some barrel drilling and then let the games begin!

New Year, New House, Old Style Hellhound

Between moving and having my parents visit it was a slow month of painting. Nonetheless we are out the door for 2015.

Here's to hoping things pick up.

Two Last Pieces and Year End Roundup

In an effort to clear out some stuff for the move and to help my FLGS, here are two last pieces of line of sight blocking terrain I did up:

 photo 5E2A5931-8BD7-4159-8A56-BFA6023A1487_zpsicsk7qcv.jpg

Bringing this year's total to:

Figures: 192
Terrain: 41
Vehicles: 14

Down from last year but considering it involved a three month hiatus of major projects I am content.

The big winner was my friend Owen that I did a boatload of D&D, plus some gift figures for. Followed by Ultras (no suprise), Ultramarines (my only "complete" army), and then a smattering of Chaos and Imperial Guard, er Astra Militarum. In zero place are my poor Eldar and Necrons (although at least the Necrons got played this year). Somewhere in there was terrain which got used quite a bit, although not always by me. I also knocked out a couple things I had been wanting to get done; the Vulture, the barrels, and the Mantic Terrain so pleased to get them done.

For next year I have a bunch of Ultras (no suprise) but I want to focus on Horus Heresy Ultras, an entire new airforce for the Ultras, then catch up some Eldar, Necrons and some huge projects I have been sitting on for a few years. For the next coupe of weeks I should be moving but until then Happy New Year to you all.

Ultramarnes Sicaran and Black Legion Warpsmith and (not) So Much More!

These are probably the last new paints of the year. Final count to follow in a few days.

There are some minor flaws that became apparent after painting but I can live with the final product. This think kick behind in both 40k and 30k and I'm looking forward to giving it a field test.

I wanted him to be Black Legion and not be overwhelmed by all the metal on him; I'm content with the results. He has a couple spare tentacles, to include a painted one that has gone AWOL. Since we are moving shortly I'm sure it will turn up eventually.

 photo 8433F929-FF5D-4E8A-877B-8F28F8BC10B7_zpsnx3j0vz2.jpg

I also knocked out this Chaos Sorcerer and familiar and Forge World Navigator. For what it is worth, I was Black Legion before Black Legion was cool! (No I'm not a Chaos hipster).

 photo 5E4B9F7D-33F3-4E4E-9040-6E91766FF8F7_zpsmnukvt4d.jpg

The Navigator is great for Horus Heresy, or as an objective for 40K, or as a PC figure for Rogue Trader (maybe I'll get to play that again some day).

Two of us did these for our other friend, David:

Just a couple figures left and then time for the annual count of what all I got painted this year. Hope it stacks up to past years!
