Playing Catch Up

So first, here's how the robots turned out-lost the gumption to paint them so it will be a while before I get back around to them: Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Second project was my monthly challenge-Elites. I chose to do Heresy-era terminators and include a friend. Rumor has it he can punch your face off in space with no helmet. Much Scibor was used to bring us these terminators and Gilly. Photobucket Photobucket Third was some terrain in preparation for an eventual city fight. Not sure why I've been on such an Urban/Industrial kick other than it's because I've got some great kits and want to use them. In this case I also had some old 2nd Ed plastics I didn't have the heart to throw away but didn't want to repaint into Ultras. I love the Pegasus Hobbies buildings but the fact that they don't make roofs for them drives me nuts. Not super pleased at how this one turned out. I may go back and rework it later but it works for now. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Having Problems Posting

I will try to get it fixed and updates up in the near future. In the mean time, I may or may not be out of town for a month. I'm taking my painting on the road but updates may be a little slow.

Robot Roll Call!

I keeping with the recent Forge World theme that everything old is new again, I have decided to reexamine robots. I was at Wal-Mart the other day and saw these on sale-Photobucket

Now don't know a think about Reddakai other thant it is yet another Japanese game/anime wishes it was as popular as Pokemon but clearly isn't. Whad I did notice was with a little work, maybe I could turn it into a decent Castellian class robot from 1st Edition days.

Photobucket

Now the size would be larger but that seems to be a general theme of stuff that has been reworked into the latest edition. I think in the end it will be about the size of a contemptor dread but if you look at the fluff pics, that isn't that far off.

Photobucket

The basic plan is simple:
1) Arms-remove the middle part of the hand and condense it down into thick power glove fingers. This thing is made for smashing, not picking up tea cups.
2) Shoulders and body-cut these down and with anple use of green stuff and (probably) some profanity, sculpt it into something approaching the body of the actual model.
3) Remove the head and cut off the neck. Inverting the head and some putty and plasticard work will have it resemble the cockpit-like head of the Castellian.
4) Remove the legs and put them more to the side, filling in the gaps and giving them guards over the top of the legs.
5) Build a backpack for the back of the model for the weapons to mount on.

The good news is that they were cheap enough that I bought two so if I screw up badly enough on the first I will have parts to try again. Or on the other hand, if I do well enough, I will have two. Or I will have two mangled bits to use as terrain pieces worst case scenario.

Fall of Duty

Photobucket

The battle raged on for the Ultramarines ship Chronicle of Duty. Both sides summoned reinforcements and now the Ultras had to stop the forces of Chaos before the destroyed key components of the ship.

Turn 1-No effects.
The Ultras moved in to engage the intruders directly. The chaos dread missed a shot at Brother Marius. The other squad fired pot-shots at the assault squad but achieved nothing while the second squad took out an objective in close combat.

Turn 2-No effects.
The Ultras continued to move forward and their reinforcements arrived on the table edge. In dread vs. dread combat Brother Marius scored a shaken result on the Chaos dread. The close combat squad charged into the Chaos marines and proved to be the most worthless assault squad ever with each side scoring one casualty.
Chaos’ reserves also entered the fray, moving in on a counter. The chaos lord scored two kills in close combat but they plucky but worthless assault squad held. Apparently their sergeants power glove wasn’t turned on or something because he continuously failed to cause any wounds with it.

Turn 3-Hull Quake.
The ship shuddered with the impact of fires and all terrain became difficult.
Brother Marius repositions and takes out a Chaos marine in an attempt to whittle the squad down. In hand to hand the assault squad is taken down by another marine as the Chaos Lord proves to be only good in combat rather than really good. The much hyped by gaming meta Thunderhammer Stormsheild Terminators charge into the Chaos terminators and at first fail their hype by losing three to the enemy’s power weapons but redeem themselves by taking out four of the Chaos terminators in return. The Chaos termies do, in fact, know fear and charge from the fray.
The Chaos dread fires at the objective in front of it which makes its invulnerable save and the Chaos Lord puts down the last two assault marines.

Turn 4-Power Surge
Energy courses through the ship, knocking out the lights for the turn and forcing the night fighting rules to be in effects.
Brother Marius moves back and fires on the Chaos dread again, immobilizing it. The termies charge the Chaos Marine squad that had been fighting the assault squad (the Chaos Lord had not been attached to it) and give and take a casualty. Disappointing.
The Chaos dread takes out the objective that Brother Marius had been guarding. The chaos lord and the other squad move forward-the Lord towards the tactical squad with reinforcements and the chaos squad towards the third objective.

Turn 5-No effects.
Marius kills one warrior. In hand to hand the Chaos Lord kills one and somehow manages to only take one wound. Seriously if they survive the company will be standing penance in the combat cages for their close combat failures!
Meanwhile the Chaos dread goes into blood rage but is immobilizes so just stands there frothing at the mouth or whatever it has left. The terminator kills 2 more chaos scum in hand to hand and they run. The Chaos Lord continues to prove his might, killing one marine and taking a second wound. This guy has future demonhood written all over him. Meanwhile the sneaky chaos squad assaults the third objective, handily destroying it. Chaos is triumphant…for now!

More Heresy

Beakies FTW! This flash to the past is not officially my April Challenge Troops choice since I started painting them a few days before the first of the month; that will be the other ten I primed.

In Between Paint Jobs

I'm in a lull between paint challenges and have dedicated this time to getting the next group of figures ready. I am considering dropping the challenge being exclusively for my Ultramarines because I am insanely ahead of the challenge and it is starting to hold me back.

To wit:

Here are two tactical squads (troops) and their rhino transports (one squad coutns as next month's challenge).

Next up is April's challenge, elites. I took some classic (as in the first ever and actually made out of lead) terminators, did some serious filing down on the shoulder pads and used some from Scibor. I really like how they turned out; it really bridges the gap between "modern" terminators and classic terminators and they resemble chaos terminators which also bridge the two:

Lastly, also drawing from Scibor and an old (also lead thank the Emperor) Marnieus Calgar and I now have a Robute Guilliman (ahem, counts as Marnie):

Heresy Era Scouts

These guys started out as the plastic scouts from the Advanced Space Crusade boxed set. You all know them as the squat looking scouts with mohawks. Don't laugh too hard, they were once da bomb back in the day. I cut off their legs then added green stuff to make them longer. Suddenly they didn't look quite so dorky:

And the final product:
