Bo and Luke Ork

Passed my Series 65 and finally got some time to get back to the painting table.

To wit:

Just some good ole boyz
Never meanin' no harm
Beats all you never saw
Been in trouble with the law
Since the day they was spored

Makin' their way
The only way they know how
That's just a little bit more than the Imperium will allow

So my first full unit for the 40K Radio Freebootaz Toys for Tots 2014 drive is finally(!) complete. The HQ with orks that suspiciously resemble the cast of Duck Dynasty should be done in a day or two time permitting.

My Big Fat Non-Update

So the story so far; I previously avoided putting out personal information due to the "OpSec" nature of my old job. However, essentially on the 1st of July I retired form 24 years in the Marine Corps as a Major. It has been a long and wacky (not something one usually associates with the Marines) road and although there are elements I am sad to see go, both the Marine Corps and I feel I am ready to move on. It was an amicable divorce-we'll still see each other on the holidays and such. It's not that we don't love each other, we are just not in love with each other.

So what does this mean? Essentially my pay gets cut to less than half (still an excellent reirement plan-no complaints) and I have to get a real job. Which I have. Sort of. In essence I am in training to be a financial advisor. Which is great except there are four tests you have to take, The State Licensig Exam, The Series 6, The Series 63, and the dreaded Series 65. I am all the way up to the Series 65 but to start work in August I need to pass it by July 15th which is touch and go. Needless to say this is my number one priority right now so once again all my projects have gone on the back burner. Pass or fail (if I fail I have to wait a full month to retake it) I will have more time for projects after that so fingers crossed.

I have finishing Da Ork Dynasty as my top priority, then a Scorpius Whirlwind tank for my own vanity, then after that a bunch of small projects to start working on but I will get to them when I get to them.

Until then I wish you all smooth brushes and clean paint water.

Prototypes of Da Ork Dynasty Boyz Complete (mostly)

Okay, they need me to finish the bases but the figures themselves are done. For the most part I am please with how they came out. Now on to the second squad and their HQ.

Da Ork Dynasty and Delays Delays Delays

Gone through some massive life changes. Nothing like a divorce or a gender swap but very disruptive.

So what have I been working on?
This Year's Freeboota Toys for Tots is something of an open category and they took suggestions. Trying to harness the recent Redneck Revolution and the upcoming new Ork Codex, I have devised...Da Ork Dynasty.

Theme: Overall theme is an "ahem" Southern-style ork army, inspired by the Duck Dynasty TV show as well as "redneck" pop culture. Conversions to bring out that Duck Dynasty flavor are strongly encouraged.

Fluff: On the southern edge of the galaxy is a strange new ork clan. Its members sport facial hair and and wear bizarre camouflage. Their trukks are frequently jacked up and have gun racks on the back windshield. Other orks refer to them derisively as "Rednekz" but the clan wears this title with pride. They are lead by the mysterious warboss known only as the "Ork Kommanda".

My test squad is 80% painted but here are the raw shots (see if you can recognize anyone):

30K Heavy Weapons and Scout Repaints

Knocked out the last of my 30K Heavy Weapons (for now). I will need to get a shot of them all together for ego purposes at some time in the near future:

I also repurposed some scouts I had converted for 30K. When I first started this project there were no army lists available so I just converted troops using the 5th ed rules as a base. As it turned out there are not scouts like we see them in 40k so these guys were left in the lurch. Fortunately, I needed scouts for my Dark Angels so a few dabs of Dark Angels Green later and they have sucessfully jumped ship:

Sternguard and 30K

This week I knocked out some Sternguard. I had previously converted some of my own but I recently purchased the boxed set from a friend on a whim and used some spare bits to expand it out to six rather than the five that come with the set:

I also worked on my low-budget 30K heavy weapons squad. Rather than dump a ton of money to Forge World (it's not that I don't love you guys but shipping is murder) I used my 2nd Edition figures to good use; they are already archaic and similarly dissimilar to the later heavy weapon troops. Plus the armor type with all the decorations is vague enough that it resembles some of the art in the Visions of Heresy books. Good enough for me. I have a couple already painted so this brings me up to a squad of six.

Lastly, I have an old Captain figure that I have repainted three or four times now, and a classic thud gun that can be used in either my 30K army or Imperial Guard (or Astra Militia or whatever they are called now):

Up next is more 30K heavy weapons and some repurposed scouts.

Also, big news that I cannot reveal for now but more in the next month or so if all goes as planned.
