Centaur Terminators Pt4

The first two are made from Ork boars, plasticard bits and a load of putty. I am going to have to go back and add something to the surface of both as there is too much negative space.

The next four are the full mechanicals.

Here are all six together. I am going to go back and add the shoulder pads later to facilitate painting.

Centaur Chaos Terminators Pt3

Here are the first legs fresh out of the cloning machine. They will need some putty work and maybe some more trimming, but overall I'm pleased. At first I thought they'd be too thin but I think they are beefy enough.

Centaur Chaos Terminators Pt 2

The legs are done and ready for the cloning chamber. Here are two crappy shots:

Here are the main bodies (without the upper torso attached). There will be some massive putty work to fill in the gaps but the staged torso gives you an idea of how it will look:

Centaur Terminators

Due to an extremely generous trader-no on second though it wasn't a trade he was giving them away-at my FLGS, I obtained, among other things, a bunch of chaos terminator upper torsos. So what do you do with 1/2 of a terminator?* A long time ago, back in the early 90's, I saw a ogryn centaur cyborg. I don't know if it was a conversion or a really rare figure but I have never seen its like again, nor found any record of it. Remembering it inspired me to build my own.
Here is my progress so far. Rather than make 16 or so legs, I plan on making one set and copying it with a resin mold:

*I think legs are how GW limits its figure; you usually have plenty of every other body part.

Returning To Chaos

This is my first Chaos fig I have painted in a very long time. Insult to injury, I have scrubbed the old figures down to their bare metal and will be rebooting the entire paint line. I only had a terminators and Abbadon painted up so it really isn't that big of a sacrifice. In the mean time, here is my Chaos Dreadnaugt as converted from a plastic Space Marine dread. I was going for a glowing metal look as opposed to just a flat black. I convertid this model a very long time ago and if I was to do it over, I'd add a lot more chaosy bits to the flat spaces. That said, I think I captures a Chaos-esque feel to it. I don't think I will do the terminators up like this, but they will be similar enough to tie the army together.

The Nu-ness is Over

Okay, last pun. There comes a point in every project where you decide to stop primping it and call it finish; I have reached that point. I added the decals, weathering/damage, and some discreet washes. I have decided to call them the Chiroptera landers (chioptera is Latin, er High Imperial Gothic for bat-I think they come off rather bat-like). The squadron is a Marine Light Attack squadron on the east coast. I figured an HMLA made more sense than basing them on a HMM (Medium Helicopter Squadron-what I used for my Valkyries); in real life HMLAs consist of two aircraft: AH-1W's (cobras) and UH-1N's (Hueys). If I ever get a Vulture it would fill the AH spot. The Chiropteras are more of a lightly armed utility craft so they fit the UH spot. The pilots' callsigns are based off of a couple of UH pilots I flew with back in the day.

Also on the current paint roster, my Chaosified dreadnaught. Depsite the spikes it's not really screaming "Chaos inside" yet. Maybe after several more coats and lots of detail work.

Once this is done, I can concentrate on my secret project, Centaur-styled Terminators. I finally worked out how to do the body and calculated that I have enough parts for at least six. I will have plenty of converting to make legs for them; two will be based on some boars I was keeping for other purposes but decided to use.

Small Progress

I have family in town and just spent the weekend at Virgina Beach. I would highly recommend it for a relaxing time. No so much for getting some painting done. As such all I have accomplished is prepping my next Freeboota montly challenge and adding some decals to the flyers:
